Energy Spring NS CYL 540

Marine Cylinder Oil
SAE 50 BN 40
Product Overview +

NS CYL 540 is a BN 40, SAE 50 cylinder oil developed for low-speed two-stroke crosshead marine engines running on very low sulphur fuels (0.10–0.50% S). Its balanced alkalinity and proven detergent additive system neutralises combustion acids while keeping pistons, ring grooves and cylinder ports free of deposits. High viscosity index mineral base oils maintain a robust, load-bearing oil film across the full load and temperature range, controlling ring and liner wear and supporting extended times between overhauls.

Applications +
Recommended for the cylinder lubrication of low-speed crosshead two-stroke marine diesel engines operating continuously on VLSFO, ULSFO and distillate fuels with a sulphur content up to 0.50%. Holds a Category I No Objection Letter for Everllence (MAN ES) MAN B&W Mark 8 and earlier engine designs, and is suitable for WinGD and MHI-MME engines under the conditions of their lubricant recommendations. Engine builder feed rates should be observed as a minimum and verified by scavenge drain analysis.

Properties & Benefits +
Acid Neutralization
A 40 BN alkaline reserve matched to low sulphur fuels neutralises combustion acids without over-basing, protecting liners and rings from cold corrosion while limiting carbonate deposit formation.
Boundary Lubrication
High viscosity index base oils sustain a continuous, load-bearing film across the full load and temperature range, controlling adhesive wear and scuffing risk and extending periods between piston overhauls.
Detergent Performance
A proven detergent-dispersant system keeps pistons, ring lands, ring grooves and scavenge ports clean, preventing ring sticking and deposit build-up in the exhaust track.
Storage Stability
Homogeneous, thermally and oxidatively stable formulation that resists separation over long storage periods and is fully miscible with conventional cylinder lubricants.
